Our warehouse

25th June 2021

All of our donations come into our warehouse to get weighed in and to check they are in date.  They then get sorted into the different foods – soup, beans, fruit, vegetables etc.  Philip, our warehouse supervisor, alongside volunteers, empty all our collection points at the supermarkets each week (Hailsham, Heathfield and outlying village stores).  Twice a week our ‘pick list’ boxes get packed up by volunteers.  We have specific boxes for 1 person, 2 people, families of 3-4 and 5+.  These get weighed out as they leave the warehouse to go to the distribution centre so that we always know how much stock is in the warehouse.

If we have ‘miscellaneous’ items that don’t fit in with our pick lists these go into little mixed bags that go with each food parcel.

Our warehouse space has the capacity to hold between 3-4,000 kg of stock and we have in the past year given out this amount of food in a month so get through most stock very quickly.

Because of our limited space we would really encourage people to check our website and social media for which items we need as if we hold too much stock of certain items (such as pasta/cereal) it means we have less space for the other items that we need.
