Our Office

16th July 2021

The office is where all the background work goes on.  We work with many organisations across town and wider who help people with their financial issues and refer to us for food parcels while they are sorting out their finances.  We also engage with various food shops and other local venues who are willing to be collection points for us.  We have a database that tells us all the people due to visit/who have visited us so that at any time we know how many people we have fed, whether they are single, couples, families etc., which area they live in and the reason they have had to use the foodbank.  This is really important in how we work going forward, identifying local issues and working with the appropriate people to try and address them.

Julie, the foodbank manager, oversees the whole foodbank operation and runs any special projects we do such as The Holiday Shack during longer school holidays, Turn2Us and others that are one off or in the pipeline.  We give talks at local schools, churches and community groups.  Our phone line and emails are kept busy with people wanting to help us or wanting help from us.  We run our social media accounts, encouraging people to donate, keep our website up to date and apply for any grants that would help with our work. Ultimately, our aim is to work locally and with the Trussell Trust to try and make the changes that mean people don’t need to rely on foodbanks.  We might be the only organisation in town trying to do ourselves out of a job!
